Abby Duncan

Abby is originally from Guernsey and moved back to the island in 2019 to practice. Abby graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSc in Occupational Therapy in 2010 and she has specialised in Hand Therapy since 2014, an area she is truly passionate about. Having worked for Guys and St.Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London as a Senior Specialist Hand Therapist, Abby is very keen to continue the development of the Hand Therapy service in Guernsey.  Abby is very much astute to the development of services to meet the needs of service users and presented at the 2019 Hand Surgery & Therapy Congress in Berlin on ‘Exploring the extended role of Hand Therapy Assistants’.

Abby has a wealth of experience in treating all hand related conditions from acquired conditions such as work related upper limb disorders (repetitive strain injuries) to major trauma including total hand replants and flexor tendon injuries.

Abby is a registered member of the British Association of Hand Therapists, Royal College of Occupational Therapists and The Health and Care Professions Council.

Hand Therapy

Hand Therapy is a specialism within Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy and focuses on evidence based treatment of the hand and forearm. This includes bespoke splinting (rigid supports), specific exercise programmes, scar management, oedema management (swelling), neoprene off the self supports, sensory education after nerve injury, functional assessments, activity modification advice, pain management techniques and much more. > Find out more
