Shockwave Success!

Here is a great testimonial from one of our patients who had fantastic results with Shockwave Therapy. We’ve had our machine for over a year now and we are really excited about the great results we’ve had in a variety of conditions including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, shoulder tendinopathy / calcification and tennis elbow.

‘In early August I developed shin pain that was increasingly uncomfortable to walk on. On visiting Nicki it became apparent that I had shin splints, a common injury among avid runners – however I do not run and never have done! Although I do have hypermobility syndrome and walking with flat feet seemed to be the cause of my injury.

Over the next month I attended sessions with Nicki on a regular basis who administered acupuncture, applied taping and recommended orthotic insoles to raise the arch in my foot. However by the end of August the pain had become unbearable and I could not bare any weight on my right leg.

I started walking with the aid of crutches and still continued to visit Nicki as well as visiting the GP who recommended muscle relaxants to help manage the pain. The pain continued to get worse over the next two weeks and I was unable to continue taking the muscle relaxants. I then visited a rheumatoid GP who prescribed an anti-inflammatory and recommend an air-cast boot.

I was fitted with the air-cast boot mid-September which allowed me to walk without crutches, but I was still in a significant amount of pain, could not walk up or down stairs unaided and had to keep my right leg elevated as much as possible. The only thing that helped to ease the pain was applying ice to the effected area, but this was only a temporary relief.

Nicki suggested shock wave therapy at the start of October and I was amazed with the immediate results. I stopped using the crutches after just the first treatment and have had weekly sessions for the passed five weeks.

Although the initial procedure was painful I was able to walk upstairs unaided, for the first time in six weeks, just 15 minutes after the treatment.  The difference in my shin pain was immediately noticeable and I could walk short distances with just a slight limp and a small amount of pain.

After week three I was able to perform gentle calf stretches and walk around with minimal discomfort including up and down stairs completely unaided.

Each shock wave session was less painful and after the fourth session I was able to put all of my weight onto my right shin, something that at the start of August would have left me in a heap on the floor in agony!

I would highly recommend shockwave therapy for shin splints, it was the only treatment which made any difference to my injury and I am now completely pain free. It is certainly worth the initial discomfort when being administered as the results are outstanding.

Thank you so much to Nicki and the team at Avenue Clinic, without this treatment I would still be hobbling around in pain but instead am looking forward to getting back in the gym!’

"The Osteopaths use a broad range of techniques that I had not experienced with other practitioners and after a few sessions the pain was gone and I had more movement in my neck than I had in years"

Keep it Cool and beat the Heat- Focus on Tokyo 2020.

With the Tokyo 2020 (2021) Olympics in full swing, I thought we would share some insight into cooling strategies for the athletes.  This research was published in June 2020 in the British Journal of sports medicine. I have linked the article at the bottom. The conditions for athletes, like Guernseys own Cameron Chalmers,  competing in Tokyo […]
