Merrilee is a Teenage/Young adult counsellor.
Merrilee is compassionate, experienced and trauma-informed who
provides a safe, non-judgmental space for teenagers and young adults navigating
life’s challenges. She understands that growing up and transitioning into adulthood
can feel incredibly overwhelming, whether a young person is struggling with anxiety,
stress, low mood, relational difficulties, or simply feeling like their voice isn’t being
heard.
Merrilee practices integratively, meaning she doesn’t believe in a “one size fits all”
approach. Instead, she blends different therapeutic methods to tailor every session
to the unique needs of the individual. Grounded in the belief that a strong, trusting
connection is the foundation of real change, she ensures her clients always lead the
way—offering a dedicated space to listen and support rather than giving unsolicited
advice.
What sets Merrilee apart is her rich background in both healthcare and education.
Before moving into therapeutic practice, she spent years working as a senior
children’s nurse and clinical educator within the NHS, followed by over a decade
supporting students with complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH)
needs in education.
Holding a BA (Hons) in Children’s Nursing, a Level 5 Distinction in Trauma-Informed
Practice, and a Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Teenagers, she looks at mental
health through a holistic and compassionate lens that considers both mind and body.
Merrilee is a Guernsey girl who returned to the island in 2006. Life at home is
wonderfully full; she shares it with her husband, their two teenage sons, and three
dogs. Balancing her professional practice with raising teenagers gives her a very
real, first-hand understanding of the unique, modern pressures that young people
and families face today. When she isn’t working, Merrilee loves to travel, read, head
to the gym, and host friends and family for home-cooked meals.
